Recently 6 Marines passed away in Afganistan in a helicopter crash.
One of these Marines was a high school classmate of mine, Captain Daniel B Bartle.
He was 2 years ahead of me in school, but somehow we still had a class together.
He graduated Valedictorian of Ferndale High School in Washington State in 2002.
He was and is a hometown hero.
Tomorrow afternoon his body will land back in Whatcom County, He will be escorted through Bellingham to his hometown. The hope is that the community that comes together during thick and thin will be there to line the main road of town. I wish with all my heart I could be there.
